Four-hour company-level interactive fire dynamics course: reading smoke (Dodson VVDC), interior fire conditions (layering, rollover, flashover, backdraft, flow path, door control), and water application for specific occupancies (transitional attack, interior streams, attic, basement, garden apartment, commercial void). Built from UL FSRI research, NIOSH FFFIPP reports, NFPA 1700, and The Art of Reading Smoke. Scene photos, official FSRI videos, branching decisions, typed 20-word-or-less radio size-ups, and a 25-question final (80% to pass). 1. Read smoke using Dodson VVDC (volume, velocity, density, color) and turn the read into a tactic.
2. Distinguish laminar from turbulent smoke and state the decision each one forces.
3. Identify a ventilation-limited fire from the yard and control the door before making an opening.
4. Recognize thermal layering, a dropping neutral plane, rollover, and impending flashover from the interior.
5. Distinguish flashover from backdraft and state the different tactic each requires.
6. Describe a flow path (inlet and exhaust) and assign door control as a fire-control job.
7. Select the correct first water for a given occupancy: transitional, interior, attic, basement, or defensive.
8. Apply a 20-word-or-less standard radio size-up: unit, building, conditions, location, action, command.
9. State the FSRI finding that a correct exterior stream cools the fire room and remote rooms and does not push fire.
10. Complete the ten-module interactive course and the 25-question final (80% to pass).
