This course is free, online, and self-paced. Course participants will receive a certificate upon completion. This course includes firsthand video accounts from responders and mental health consumers. This course is designed to help first responders do the following:

  1. Understand how individuals come to experience a behavioral health crisis.
  2. Understand how best to make a safe connection with an individual experiencing a crisis.
  3. Learn about de-escalation strategies for working with people in crisis.
  4. Learn strategies for developing community networks and referral resources.
  5. Understand how to improve the safety of both the responder and the individual in crisis.
