Full-scale hands-on facility training (3-6 hours) covering brush / wildland apparatus driver-operator evolutions. Officer selects evolutions. Possible evolutions include: 4WD engagement and disengagement on multiple surfaces, off-road driving course (slope, side-hill, soft ground, obstacles), pump-and-roll operations (low-speed forward driving while pumping, with bumper turret and side sprays), Class A foam application during pump-and-roll, anchor-and-flank evolution simulating fire edge attack, water curtain deployment for apparatus protection, escape route identification and timed evacuation (driver as last person on, anchor maintained), simulated burn-over drill (windows up, AC recirc, crew sheltering inside cab), apparatus protection setup at structure triage point, and post-evolution apparatus check (tires, undercarriage, radiator, hose). Each evolution includes pre-brief, full evolution, AAR, and reset. Reference: NFPA 1002 Ch. 9, NFPA 1906, NFPA 1051, NWCG S-130/S-190, IRPG. Document evolutions and any issues.

  1. 1. Operate brush apparatus in 4WD over varied terrain.
  2. 2. Complete pump-and-roll evolution at target speed and flow.
  3. 3. Demonstrate apparatus protection / shelter-in-place response.
  4. 4. Apply LCES principles during evolutions.
  5. 5. Conduct AAR and identify improvements.
