Hands-on, job-related physical fitness evolution conducted under the department's occupational safety, health, and wellness program (NFPA 1500). NFPA 1500 requires members to develop and maintain the physical capacity to perform essential firefighting tasks; this evolution trains and documents that functional fitness on the drill/training ground. Run as a circuit or timed evolution in full PPE/SCBA where appropriate. Stations may include: charged hose-line advance and drag, ground-ladder carry and raise, high-rise pack / stair climb, equipment and tool carry, forcible-entry (Keiser) sled, victim drag/rescue dummy, and SCBA-on air-management work. Officer sets the circuit, work-rest ratio, and intensity. Companion references: NFPA 1583 (Health-Related Fitness Program) and NFPA 1582 (Medical Requirements).

  1. 1. Complete the functional fitness evolution safely in appropriate PPE and document the stations performed.
  2. 2. Explain how job-related fitness supports NFPA 1500 occupational fitness and firefighter safety.
  3. 3. Perform fireground tasks (hose drag, ladder carry, stair climb, victim drag) with sound body mechanics.
  4. 4. Apply SCBA air management and work-rest cycles to manage exertion and heat stress.
  5. 5. Recognize personal limitations and when to rotate out, rehab, or seek medical evaluation (NFPA 1582).
