Instructor-side live fire course covering NFPA 1403, the controlling standard for every live fire evolution. Students take a live fire class; the people responsible for students take this one. Department-neutral on facility on purpose — covers BOTH a fixed burn prop and an acquired structure, which carries a separate and much longer list of 1403 requirements (owner permission and title, insurance, permits, asbestos survey, utilities disconnected, tanks removed, exposures protected). Also covers the written pre-burn plan and why a blank section stops the burn; Class A fuel limits and the absolute prohibition on accelerants; two independent water sources with duration and reserve, and why two lines off one hydrant is a single source; every required position and the Safety Officer's authority to halt regardless of rank; real working air versus the label on the bottle; NFPA 1584 rehab criteria; the stop-condition list; and the records that must be retained. 8 modules, a knowledge check on each, 25-question final at 80%. 1. State that NFPA 1403 is the controlling standard and that a department SOP falling below it is a defect in the SOP.
2. List what a written pre-burn plan must contain and recognise that a blank required section stops the burn.
3. Distinguish fixed-prop requirements from the additional requirements for an acquired structure.
4. State the fuel rules — Class A ordinary combustibles in a known quantity, no accelerants at any time.
5. Explain why two lines off one hydrant is a single water source and identify a compliant second source.
6. Identify every required position and state that the Safety Officer may halt any evolution regardless of rank.
7. Apply real air-management figures rather than the rating on the cylinder.
8. State the NFPA 1584 criteria that hold a member out of an evolution.
9. List the conditions that mean you do not light, or that kill a set already burning.
10. Identify the records that must be retained after a burn.
