Self-paced online training covering changes to NFPA SCBA standards between the 2018 and 2024 editions and the consolidation into NFPA 1970 Standard on Protective Equipment and Systems for Emergency Operations. Personnel will review the history of NFPA 1981 (SCBA) and NFPA 1852 (SCBA care and maintenance), understand why these standards were merged into NFPA 1970, and learn the key updates affecting daily SCBA operations including facepiece testing, cylinder inspection, air quality requirements, and retirement criteria. Training is accessed at scba-training.centfire6.workers.dev and includes interactive modules and knowledge checks.

  1. Explain the purpose of NFPA 1981 (SCBA design/performance) and NFPA 1852 (SCBA care/maintenance) and their consolidation into NFPA 1970.
  2. Identify key differences between the 2018 and 2024 editions of NFPA SCBA standards.
  3. Describe updated facepiece fit testing requirements and inspection criteria.
  4. Explain cylinder hydrostatic testing intervals, retirement criteria, and daily inspection procedures.
  5. Identify air quality standards for breathing air including testing frequency and contaminant limits.
  6. Describe proper SCBA cleaning, decontamination, and storage procedures per current standards.
